A historical win and a very deserved trophy for the Nine.
Some people are questioning the sales numbers somewhere? Not in Korea. Goldie is based on actual sales which can be very different from Hanteo so Hanteo is only a rough guide, you dont use Hanteo to analyze Goldie results. Actual sales numbers have not been revealed for any of the albums nominated. kevcozha posted the accurate observation about SNSD’s public popularity which added to SNSD album sales being high in actual numbers. It’s just plain fact that SNSD’s popularity in Korea is dominant and peerless. This isn’t my personal wish or claim; it is now a fact that fans and the Korean public widely acknowledge, which is why there is no controversy at all in Korea about SNSD’s Golden Disk Daesang win.

This is the bestiz post about SNSD & 2AM’s daesang wins and the comments praising and exclaiming that the daesang wins today are truly deserved wins, and this is representative of the general response in Korea everywhere. The girls are likely to read that post as they are known to visit bestiz. No need to worry about the few trolls who try to argue using Hanteo numbers because they are being ridiculed, getting no support in Korea at all from other fans or from the public.
Like kevcozha said much of public buys albums in non-Hanteo stores, notably in supermarts which adds a lot to actual sales, but not added to Hanteo numbers. Just like in America where supermarts like Walmart sells the most CDs to public. In addition any GDA judging will give lopsided points to SNSD obviously; with total year sales of 300K Hanteo, more than dozen no 1 Mubank and chart wins, 300K+ CD/DVD Oricon sales in Japan.

I was working in the lab when the winner was announced and I didn’t check the internet for the result. It was posted before that the chance of SNSD winning GDA was about 30%, which was the best objective estimate arrived at after observing all the information available. Naturally I didn’t get my hopes up, I’m usually cool about these things but this is the Goldie, I was brainwashing myself “Let’s just accept that winning is not likely. Just check the result, get it over with and get back to work.” But like many Sones this one small thought kept playing in my head. “Our girls always surprise us, the girls let us dream…” One hour later I check the internet and my heart stops.

You can probably guess that a girlgroup winning both GDA Disk Daesang and Digital Daesang is something unprecedented in kpop history
- Only female group in history to win Disk Daesang.
- Third female artist in history to win Disk Daesang (Others are Lee Sooyoung and Joo Hyunmi who sang Jjarajajja with Seohyun)
- Only idol in history to win both Disk Daesang and Digital Daesang. This is incredibly hard, chance of this happening in kpop again is 1% (SG Wannabe is the only other artist to win both types though technically it wasn’t called Digital Daesang at the time)

Many in Korea are awed by what SNSD is achieving now, as it was something previously thought to be “just plain impossible” for a girlgroup. Look at all of kpop history and you will see that almost 90% of top selling albums in history are from male artists and only one solo female artist won Disk Daesang in the last 20 years.

And this is what I’m starting to observe in Korea: people are now starting to see SNSD going beyond the realm of “idol stars”. In Korea, people used to debate how big SNSD is in kpop history as a girlgroup. There are no such debates any more as the answer has become trivial now. It is now more the curiosity of “Just how far will they go in history?”

Amidst the momentous accomplishments the girls never lose choshim and they will continue on to another day. After the Golden Disk Awards the girls are at the after party dinner. Witness account notes Tiffany arriving. The Nine always together.

They are soooo great girl group that i know and they are my first idol! I love their concept too.. yay cheerleaders! <3
